OnePlus Nord 3 5G: A Budget-Friendly Smartphone with Premium Features

OnePlus is known for making flagship smartphones that offer excellent performance, design, and features at a reasonable price. The OnePlus Nord series is the company's attempt to bring the same philosophy to the mid-range segment, where consumers want a good balance of quality and affordability.

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G is the latest addition to the Nord family, and it promises to deliver a smooth and fast experience with 5G connectivity, a 90Hz AMOLED display, a powerful Snapdragon 778G processor, and a versatile quad-camera setup. In this blog post, we will take a closer look at the OnePlus Nord 3 5G and see what makes it a great choice for anyone looking for a budget-friendly smartphone with premium features.

Design and Display

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G has a sleek and elegant design that follows the OnePlus design language. It has a glass back with a matte finish that feels smooth and comfortable in the hand. The phone comes in two colors: Blue Haze and Gray Sierra. The Blue Haze variant has a gradient effect that changes from light blue to dark blue depending on the angle of light, while the Gray Sierra variant has a subtle texture that adds some depth and character to the phone.

The front of the phone is dominated by a 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 410 ppi. The display supports a 90Hz refresh rate, which means that it can show up to 90 frames per second, making everything look smoother and more responsive. The display also supports HDR10+, which enhances the contrast and color range of the content. The display has a punch-hole cutout on the top left corner for the selfie camera, and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G has a slim profile of 8.2 mm and weighs 184 grams. It has a power button and an alert slider on the right side, a volume rocker on the left side, a USB-C port, a speaker, and a dual SIM tray on the bottom, and a microphone on the top. The phone does not have a headphone jack or a microSD card slot.

Performance and Battery

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset, which is an octa-core processor with four Kryo 670 Gold cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and four Kryo 670 Silver cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The chipset also has an Adreno 642L GPU for graphics performance and an integrated X53 modem for 5G connectivity.

The Snapdragon 778G is a mid-range chipset that offers impressive performance for everyday tasks and gaming. It can handle multitasking, web browsing, social media, streaming, and casual games with ease. It can also run some demanding games at medium to high settings, but it may not be able to handle the highest graphics settings or frame rates.

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G comes with either 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and either 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The RAM and storage options are generous for this price range, and they ensure that the phone can run smoothly without any lag or stuttering. The phone also supports RAM Boost, which optimizes the memory usage based on the user's behavior.

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G has a 4500 mAh battery that can last for a full day of moderate to heavy usage. The phone supports Warp Charge 65T, which is OnePlus's proprietary fast charging technology that can charge the phone from zero to 100% in just about half an hour. The phone does not support wireless charging or reverse wireless charging.

Camera and Software

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G has a quad-camera setup on the back, consisting of:

- A 50 MP main camera with an f/1.88 aperture, optical image stabilization (OIS), phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and omnidirectional PDAF.
- An 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.25 aperture and a field of view of 119 degrees.
- A 2 MP macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture.
- A monochrome camera with an f/2.4 aperture.

The main camera can capture detailed and sharp photos in good lighting conditions, with accurate colors and dynamic range. It can also perform well in low-light situations, thanks to the OIS and the Nightscape mode that enhances the brightness and clarity of the images. The ultra-wide-angle camera can capture more of the scene in one shot, but it may suffer from some distortion and noise at the edges. The macro camera can take close-up shots of small objects, but it may not be very useful for most users. The monochrome camera can add some artistic effects to the photos, but it may not be very noticeable.

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G can record videos up to 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, or up to 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second. The video quality is decent, but it may not be very stable or smooth, as the phone does not have electronic image stabilization (EIS) or OIS for video recording. The phone also supports slow-motion video recording at 1080p resolution at 120 frames per second, or at 720p resolution at 240 frames per second.

The front-facing camera of the OnePlus Nord 3 5G is a 32 MP sensor with an f/2.45 aperture and fixed focus. It can take selfies with good details and colors, and it also supports portrait mode, HDR, and face unlock. The front-facing camera can record videos up to 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G runs on OxygenOS 12, which is based on Android 12. OxygenOS is one of the best custom skins for Android, as it offers a clean and smooth user interface, with minimal bloatware and useful features. Some of the features of OxygenOS 12 include:

- Always-on display, which shows the time, date, battery level, and notifications on the screen when the phone is locked.
- Zen mode, which helps the user to focus and relax by limiting the phone's functionality for a set period of time.
- Dark mode, which changes the theme of the phone to a dark color scheme, which can save battery and reduce eye strain.
- Shelf, which is a customizable space that can be accessed by swiping right from the home screen, where the user can add widgets and shortcuts.
- Game mode, which enhances the gaming performance and experience by blocking notifications, optimizing the network, and enabling Fnatic mode for more immersive gaming.

Conclusion

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G is a budget-friendly smartphone that offers premium features and performance. It has a beautiful design and display, a powerful processor and battery, a versatile camera system, and a smooth software experience. It also supports 5G connectivity, which can future-proof the phone for the next generation of mobile networks.

The OnePlus Nord 3 5G is not perfect, however. It lacks some features that are common in other mid-range phones, such as a headphone jack, a microSD card slot, wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, EIS or OIS for video recording, and an IP rating for water and dust resistance. It also faces stiff competition from other brands that offer similar or better specifications and features at a lower or similar price.

Overall, the OnePlus Nord 3 5G is a great option for anyone who wants a flagship-like experience without breaking the bank. It is one of the best phones in the Nord series, and it showcases OnePlus's ability to deliver high-quality products at an affordable price.
